The Red Cross needs the help of volunteers to support blood collections across the country.

Blood Donor Ambassador volunteers are critically important to creating and ensuring an overall positive donation experience at Red Cross blood drives (mobile drives and fixed sites). Blood Donor Ambassadors greet donors, answer questions, and help in our canteen/snack area.

This position is ongoing - volunteers can use our scheduling app to identify mobile or fixed-site blood drives with volunteer needs and sign up as best fits their schedule.

Time Commitment: 6 hours per month (1-2 shifts).

Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years oldAbility to display the utmost professionalism and communication skills. Extremely comfortable working with people from diverse communities and backgrounds.

Red Cross Volunteer Shelter Teams

Our shelter volunteers support the day-to-day activities within the shelter – both locally and outside the region. Many Red Cross shelter volunteers choose to deploy to large-scale disasters. Deployment is optional and requires a 14-day commitment. Also, many of our shelter associates volunteer in other positions year-round. 

DISASTER RESPONSE – SHELTER VOLUNTEERS

Red Cross Shelter volunteers support the day-to-day activities within a shelter. This may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other vital areas within the shelter.

Time Commitment:  

Volunteers will assist for 3-5 hours/month in year-round activities to prepare for emergencies. This includes training, logistics planning, and meetings. If the need arises for a large-scale disaster response (e.g., a hurricane or wildfire), see the time commitment below: 

Local Regional Response (within 60 miles of home address): Volunteers commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each.  Beyond Regional Response/Deployment: Deployment means traveling (Red Cross arranges travel and pays expenses) to a disaster area for a minimum of 14 days. Typically, volunteers work 12-14 hours a day when they deploy.

DISASTER ACTION TEAM (DAT)

Our Disaster Action Team volunteers are critically important  - not just to the Red Cross - but to our community.  They are part of a team that responds to local emergencies, including home fires. They provide comfort, hope, and Red Cross services to those impacted.  

 

During the response, volunteers provide compassion and connections to resources like financial assistance for lodging to those displaced from their homes. They may also provide community referrals and referrals to other Red Cross Services like Mental Health, Health Services, and Spiritual Care.

 

Time Commitment, Requirements, and Training:

Disaster Action Team volunteers commit to being on-call multiple times per month.  Shift times vary between 8-12 hours.  Disaster Action Team Volunteers must also complete all required training courses, followed by 1:1 training.

Red Cross Disaster Relief volunteers support people affected by home fires, storms, and countless other crises. As more people rely on the Red Cross for help, the need for compassionate Disaster Relief volunteers has never been greater.

We are actively recruiting and training for local, year-round response and/or for large-scale disaster response occurring anywhere in the country. Volunteers can volunteer in multiple positions, or just one.

DISASTER RELIEF VOLUNTEERS

Year-Round Disaster Action Team (DAT) Member: Provide year-round, in-person emergency response to individuals impacted by local disasters (primarily home fires). Volunteers provide emergency financial assistance, emotional support, and connection to Red Cross and community resources to support client recovery.

Time Commitment: On-call multiple shifts each month. The length of a shift varies by county but is typically 6-12 hours.

Disaster Shelter Volunteer: During large-scale disasters, support the day-to-day activities within a shelter. This may include reception, registration, feeding, or other areas with a shelter.

Time Commitment:

Local (within 60 miles): Multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours eachOutside the Region/Deployment: Minimum of 14 days working 10-12 hour shifts (the Red Cross arranges travel and pays expenses).

Disaster Assessment Volunteer: These volunteers are boots on the ground after a disaster and provide critical data to support the relief operation by safely assessing damage to homes.

Time Commitment:

Local (within 60 miles): Multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each Outside the Region/Deployment: Minimum of 14 days working 10-12 hour shifts (the Red Cross arranges travel and pays expenses).
