Do you enjoy sharing your historic trade skills and your love for knowledge of it with the community? We invite you to engage with Hugh Torance House & Store event guests and visitors at our living history museum throughout the year!
Dressed in historically accurate period attire, you'll engage our event guests and visitors through storytelling, hands-on demonstrations of traditional skills—like blacksmithing, cooking, or textile production—and interpreting daily life from the early years of Charlotte's founding. Beyond just public interaction, volunteering as an historic trade demonstrator enhances our educational nonprofit programming by helping maintain our historic sites' authenticity!
The Hugh Torance House & Store, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is open on Sunday's 1pm-4pm starting in February and running through mid-December and provides guided living history tours of the circa 1779 homesite to both registered and walk-in visitors. Our volunteer team is an incredible group of dedicated citizens representing local and national historic groups like the Mecklenburg Historic Association and the Sons and the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as Hollywood and Broadway actors, local elected officials, high school and college students, retirees, and local performance artists. Join us to showcase and share the rich history of the Hugh Torance House & Store to ensure its preservation.
